Attention readers: Today we’ll be taking a small detour from the world of personal finance to talk about stuff that has nothing to do with it at all. Why? Because I feel like it. Also, because I think you’ll find it interesting.
Wordle
After discovering a cool site called Wordle through Life After College, I decided to try it out for myself. Wordle is an online application that generates “word clouds” from text that you provide. Words that appear more frequently are displayed more prominently in the cloud, which is cool, but what really makes Wordle awesome is the ability to tweak and customize the font, layout, and color scheme of your artwork until you get something that you like.
Once you’re finished creating your masterpiece, the image is yours to do whatever you please with it. You can save it, print it out, delete it, share it with your friends, throw it away, or post it on your blog for all of your readers to see. Here’s one that I made using my blog feed for the text.
GenderAnalyzer
Have you ever wondered whether the blogger behind a blog is a man or a woman? Well, there’s a tool to help you figure it out. GenderAnalyzer uses artificial intelligence to make an educated guess on whether a web page is written by a woman or a man. Since I blog anonymously, new readers occasionally ask whether they should refer to me as a he or a she. I already know the answer, but let’s put GenderAnalyzer to the test.

Oh, so close! They were only one gender away from the correct answer. To be fair, I tried a few other pages from my site, and it got some of them correct. I guess my writing really is “quite gender neutral.” Try it out for yourself and share your results.

Fun stuff. I put my blog into it and it’s only 50% sure I’m a woman and I really am. Now what does that say about you with your 54% surness of womanhood…
So much for artifical intellegence.
haha….as soon as you mentioned that gender thing i knew it would be wrong for mine. I’m turning into a chick @ 71%!!! oh boy…..or girl, for that matter.
I’m with J. Money – 70% female! I was kind of surprised, but then I tried a couple of other sites and it was right.
Honestly, I expected it to guess female for mine too, because I’ve had a few people contact or link to me assuming that I was a girl. I even think they were a little disappointed to find out that I’m a guy.
Love your Wordle! And apparently I am a man
