Why Am I Doing This?

by Broke Grad on November 8, 2007

Like many of my friends, I’ve had to rely on student loans to cover the cost of my college education. After seeing some of my friends fall further into debt, I decided that it was time to take action and prepare myself for the journey out of this hole while I’m still in it. I owe $20,000 in student loans that I will have to start paying back in June 2008. However, by being proactive and making smart decisions, I plan to be able to pay off the entire balance by June 2010.

With that said, I’m documenting my experiences along the way in this blog:

To Motivate – Everybody does better with a little motivation. Keeping this blog about my experiences will help motivate me to do better, and maybe even motivate some readers to take action themselves.

To Learn – The only way to learn is by doing. As stupid as it sounds, I’ll never get myself out of debt unless I actually do it. I’m fully expecting some bumps and bruises along the way, but that’s what makes life an adventure.

To Share – I’ve always appreciated it when people share their experiences with me. There’s a certain comfort and confidence you gain after talking to somebody who has already gone through what you’re about to take on.

To Help – I know I’m not the only grad student out there in debt. Hopefully, this blog will be an inspiration to broke college students all over the world to start taking control of their finances.

For Fun – In the end, I’m really creating this blog, because I enjoy personal finance … even when it’s knocking out a $20,000 wall of debt.
