What Are You Doing With Your 2008 Tax Rebate?

by Broke Grad Student on May 21, 2008

As a recent recipient of my Stimulus Payment, I’m now faced with the daunting task of deciding what to do with my tax rebate. Before I decided to start reducing my student loan payments, my tax refund and tax rebate were both going to go toward paying off my student loans. Now that I’ve changed my financial goals for the year, I have some decisions to make.

While a shiny, new iPhone would help stimulate the economy and look pretty sweet in my pocket, I’m actually going to have to pass on it. Why? Because I have more important priorities at the moment.

As I mentioned last week, I’m getting LASIK, which is definitely not a cheap procedure. Even though my insurance covers a portion of the cost, it’s still going to put a sizable dent in my wallet. Thanks to my 2008 tax rebate, it’s going to be a smaller dent.

So that’s what I’m doing with my 2008 tax rebate. Now it’s your to share. What are you doing with your 2008 tax rebate?

I won’t be getting a stimulus check since I’m still a dependent on my parent’s return. Darn! If I were, however, I would definitely be stocking it away or using it to pay off some student loans. That wouldn’t necessarily be helping the economy in the short-term, but I’m more concerned about my long-term financial picture.
