At a meeting this past Friday, my company announced that they would be making some cutbacks in the upcoming months. That’s not exactly the best news for someone who just got hired.
The good news is that the cutbacks don’t involve any layoffs or pay cuts. Most of the cutbacks involve reducing or eliminating perks and amenities that I won’t really miss. Like many other companies, our holiday party is canceled this year. What is your company doing to deal with the recession?
In more exciting news, it’s football season, and no football season is complete without actually playing some football yourself. I’ve been playing flag football every other weekend with some friends and coworkers, and this is a game week. I’m ready for some football!

Thanks for mentioning my article. I’m glad the cutbacks at your job aren’t layoffs.
Glad to hear that your job is safe for now! Thanks for the mention.
We’ve had tons of layoffs at my company, and there’s been a salary freeze for over a year now. As far as perks, I actually haven’t heard anything about the holiday party—one way or another—which makes me think it’s probably out.
A sure sign we’re hurting is that we lost all power for TWO HOURS last week (snow related) and had to sit around waiting for it to come back. No sending us home early, no sir. Oh well. Thankful to still have a job and a paycheck, you know?
I currently am working at a grocery store.
Right now, we are steady with people, but I have heard that after the first of the year, hours go way down.
It stinks, but, hey, at least I’m making money, right??
