I have some good news, and I have some bad news. Let’s start with the bad news. I caught a cold last week, and I’m still trying to recover. Instead of staying up late writing blog posts, I’ve been falling asleep before midnight, blowing my nose continuously, and coughing in the general direction of wherever my mouth happens to be pointed.

The good news? I finally made the switch from PC to Mac. I’m typing this post on my shiny, new 15-inch MacBook Pro, and it’s awesome. I’ve had it for less than a week, and I’ve already decided that I’m not going back. In addition to looking way better than any PC laptop I’ve ever used, everything I’ve tried on my Mac has just worked. My mom (the most technologically challenged person in the world) could probably even use it.

Anyway, here are some of my favorite personal finance articles from the past couple of weeks that I’ve read while trying not to cough on my new MacBook Pro.

Common Car-Dealer Tricks at Get Rich Slowly

Also, be sure to check out some of the carnivals from the past couple of weeks. My article on the average student debt by state in the United States was featured as an Editor’s Pick in the Carnival of Personal Finance.

A few days ago, I attended my second tweetup, and it was awesome. I got to meet some fellow Gen Y bloggers and entrepreneurs who live around (or happened to be visiting) the Bay Area. With Jenny Blake and Jamie Varon organizing the meetup, it was a given that there would be cupcakes involved, and there were plenty.

The cupcakes were great, but my favorite part was getting to meet some of the people that I’ve only talked to online. As a member of the 20 Something Bloggers and Brazen Careerist communities, I got to meet a few people that I’ve only interacted with through email, blog comments, Twitter, etc. In return, they got to see proof that Broke Grad really does exist even though he blogs anonymously.

Here’s a roundup of some of the cool people I met at the tweetup, complete with links to their sites. If you were there but aren’t on the list, please don’t be offended. It doesn’t mean that you’re not cool. It means that I either didn’t talk to you, never got your name, forgot your name, or know your name but can’t any traces of you on the internet.

I had a great time meeting everyone and look forward to the next tweetup. If these tweetups keep growing at this rate, I think we might need name tags next time or maybe cupcakes with our names of them.

The weather in California was awesome this weekend, so I tried to make the most of it. Unfortunately, everybody else had the same idea. I was supposed to play tennis with one of my friends, but we couldn’t find any open courts. Instead, we just grabbed some food at a restaurant with a nice outdoor patio. After giving the food some time to digest, I went for a run around the neighborhood. Now that it’s dark, I’m sitting next to an open window enjoying the cool, refreshing night air.

Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. Even though I’m (slightly) too old to hunt for Easter eggs these days, I didn’t let that stop me from finding other fun activities for the weekend. In fact, I managed to do something I had never done before. I went to a (mini) tweetup.

Thanks to the power of Twitter, I met up with @jenny_blake, @jamievaron, and @smj10j for some cupcakes on Saturday afternoon. The cupcakes were awesome, but the people were even more awesome.

With over 2000 comments on this blog and the seemingly countless number of blogs I read on a daily basis, I’ve become friends with a lot of people in the online world, which is cool, but occasionally, it’s still nice to meet people in real life. Guess what? Now I’ve met approximately 0.001% of the people that have visited this blog.

In case you didn’t know, Jenny Blake and Jamie Varon have blogs of their own, and they rock. Jenny Blake writes all about Life After College and provides great tips and advice for handling the challenges of entering the real world after college. Jamie Varon has been all over the news lately for her brilliant idea — Twitter Should Hire Me. If you haven’t seen it, you should definitely check it out.

Finally, here are some of my favorite articles from the past few weeks.

I’m sitting in a local cafe sipping on a coffee and devouring a blueberry muffin, because I forgot to take into account the fact that it would take the cable company a week before they’d be able to send a technician out to “setup” the cable at my new place. This is the first time I’ve blogged in public, and I have to admit that it’s a little weird, but kind of cool.

It’s weird because I’ve never had to worry about someone looking over my shoulder while blogging in the privacy of my own home. Also, this isn’t exactly the smartest strategy for blogging anonymously. On the other hand, it’s cool because it feels like I’m back in college or grad school again — minus the cramming for an exam (that’s what the girl next to me is doing) or staying up all night to finish a project.

Anyway, it’s been weird living without Internet access at home for the past week. A blogger without the Internet is like a swimmer without water. Despite not blogging the past week, I’ve been trying to keep up with my reading during breaks at work, so here’s a roundup of my favorite personal finance articles from the past week.

I’m also hosting the Festival of Frugality this Tuesday, so be sure to submit your best article related to frugality, and I just might include it.
