As I mentioned at the beginning of August, this past July was a record shattering month for Broke Grad Student. With almost 20,000 unique visitors in July, there was no way I thought I’d be able to match that in the month of August, but I was completely wrong. August was a shattering of a record shattering month (kind of like watching swimming during the Olympics). Here’s how it all went down.
Broke Grad Student in the Press
While I’ve still got my fingers crossed for getting mentioned in a good ol’ fashioned newspaper or TV show, I’ll have to settle for getting mentioned on the Web for now. A few mentions on a couple of high profile sites were one of the biggest keys to success in August.
Broke Grad Student made it into Switched’s Back To School Guide 2008 as one of the 12 Legal Sites That Could Save Your College Career. Sweet.
Donna Freedman at MSN Smart Spending wrote about my post on 6 reasons why I love cash, resulting in a trip to the front page of MSN.com for a day. In fact, they even revived Karen Datko’s post about my article on 6 reasons why I hate cash and linked to both of them on the front page as you can see below.

Not surprisingly, the reasons to love cash article didn’t cause as much of a stir as the reasons to hate cash, but I still noticed a surge in traffic that day.
Last but not least, Broke Grad Student received a steady stream of StumbleUpon traffic throughout the month of August as over 10,000 people stumbled upon my compilation of over 50 tips, ideas, and resources to help college students save money.
And now for the actual stats…

That’s awesome, BGS. I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more. What I really appreciate about your site is its consistency in quality content. Three cheers and here’s to even greater things ahead!
GG: Can I hire you as my personal complimenter? Every blogger knows that writing can be like solitary confinement sometimes, and it really does help to get some support and motivation from one another. I’m glad that you’re a part of the College Money Network.
