April 2008 In Review

by Broke Grad on May 1, 2008

This blog is almost 6 months old now. Time has been flying by. Quite a bit has happened in the past month, so here’s a quick overview in case you missed any of it:

Paid Back: $3995.32

I’ve knocked out almost 20% of my debt in the past four months. While this has felt awesome, my emergency fund and retirement funds have been suffering from my aggressive loan payments. This is why I’m planning to reduce my student loan payments for at least the next few months.

This number slightly dropped from last month. While I’m not happy about this, I now have a solid goal to shoot for this month.

Woo-hoo! I broke the century mark. This number has been steadily growing, which is cool.

Congrats! I remember the thesis-defended feeling :)

Congratulations on defending your thesis. I defended mine back in March and submitted the FINAL copies a few weeks ago. The defense is a big hurdle, but finding all of your committee members (who maybe anywhere in the world for a conference or research) will be about as challenging. Congrats!

Thanks, Meg. Congrats on finishing your thesis too. Haha, I definitely agree about how challenging it has been to find every committee member whether it’s to sign a form, schedule the defense, or read over the final writeup. Thankfully, my committee discussed the issue with me after my defense, because one of the members is going to be leaving the country for the summer.

Anyway, congrats again. Have a great graduation and celebration!
