8 Resources For Finding College Scholarships

by Broke Grad on November 14, 2008

Last week, I explored the world of 9 weird and unusual college scholarships. However, I realize that we can’t all be freaks, and while being out of the ordinary may be one of the best/easiest ways to get a scholarship (less competition), it’s definitely not the only way.

There are plenty of scholarships available for regular college students too, but the trick is finding them. Here are a couple of sites that will help you find scholarships, along with a few scholarships that you can apply for by simply registering or filling out a survey.

FastWeb

FastWeb is the Google of scholarship search engines. You fill out profile information, and FastWeb returns scholarships that you personally qualify for. With millions of scholarships in their database, you’re sure to get at least a few matches back no matter how weird or ordinary you are.

Cappex

Cappex does more than match you up with scholarships. It also matches you up with colleges, letting you know your chances of getting admitted to almost any college in the country. And with scholarships like the $1,000 A GPA Isn’t Everything Scholarship, you don’t need to be a brainiac to apply. This scholarship goes to students with well-rounded profiles, so put the grades aside and let them know all about your extracurricular, leadership, and volunteer activities.

Job Diagnosis

For students who are graduating soon, you’re probably more interested in finding jobs instead of scholarships. Of course, it helps to know what kind of job you’re looking for. If the career center at your college hasn’t been helpful, then you should consider taking a free career test and career diagnosis to help you figure out what type of jobs may be a good fit for you.

Free Scholarship Opportunities

While most scholarships seem to have a never-ending list of requirements that you have to meet to even qualify, it’s not always that way. Here are a few scholarships that only require you to be a U.S. resident over the age of 18. Simply register or fill out a survey, and you’ll earn a chance to win some money for college. Scholarship lottery, anyone?

Nice sites. Good way to compliment your previous posts. I wish these resources were available and known when I was applying to college.

Craig: Same here. Resources like these have made it easier than ever to find scholarship opportunities and do research on potential colleges. I may have been able to find more scholarships if I had these tools when I first applied years ago.

You should add one more to your list: Morethangrades.com. Here you can find all sorts of scholarship for just showing what you got. Currently, there is a fill out a profile contest for $1000. With the official “new” Morethangrades.com release only a week away, a $20,000 will be posted for showing off your talent or skill via a video. Fun and money, who would have thunked it?

Here at http://www.zinch.com we are giving away a $20,000 scholarship–the deadline is Jan 15, 2009. We also have college admission officers from over 600+ schools recruiting students on our site. I would hope it is a helpful resource for those looking for scholarships available by “filling out a profile.”
