I beg to differ.
Having girlfriend has burnt a hole in my pocket.
1. I learn to cook after realising I spent too much on her. She doesn't cook, and doesnt seem to like it.
2. We rarely share meal. At first, she tends to order food than we could consume, and always choose restaurants with high prices. Now that I bring up the idea of sharing dish, I could save.
3. We do take turns to pay. But if the expenses are high to begin with, I still spend more than I would when I was single.
4. I used to stay at home all the time. Now we go out at least 2/3 times a week. Going out definitely needs money. And I am the one who always pays more. This is very apparent in holiday trips. That's one big burnt pocket hole.
5. I rather not receive gift because I am content with what I have. If I do have something to purchase, I would use my own money. If she gave me present, it means wasted money from my wallet.
6. She prolly keeps me in check once in a while.
So having a partner definitely burns a big big hole in my pocket.
It has been a big problem lately, at least to me.

Those points are only true for idea situations.

Not all people like to split the cost when going out. Either the guy is the kind that will always pay or the girl expects the guy to pay.

Not all people like to stay inside, some like to go out all the time and spend money vs. those that like to stay in or go out but do outdoor activities that cost almost nothing.

I don't know. I'm a guy, and i don't like it when my girlfriend pays for stuff, like when we're going out. it just doesn't feel right that she is paying, i usually pay all or half.
