25 Resources To Help You Get Through The Financial Crisis

by Broke Grad on October 23, 2008

Unless you’ve been living under a rock filled with a bunch of money, you’re probably aware that America is in a financial crisis. Collapsing banks and plunging stocks have been a staple of news headlines for the past few months, and fixing the economy has been a key issue in the recent presidential debates. This has left most of us wondering why this happened and what we should do now?

You’re in luck, because I’ve put together this list of 25 resources that help explain the causes of the current financial crisis, examine the effects of the flailing economy, and offer advice on how to make it through these tough times.

Causes of the Financial Crisis

While Sarah Palin may argue that the cause of something, like global warming, “kinda doesn’t matter“, I think most of us would agree that knowing the cause of a problem is the most important step to finding a solution for it. The following articles do a great job of explaining the causes of the current financial crisis in a way that even your grandma would understand.

Personal Opinions on the Financial Crisis

When things go bad, it’s natural to get mad, angry, and upset, especially if you feel like you did nothing wrong. People who live within their means may feel like they’re paying for other people’s greed, mistakes, stupidity, excesses, etc., and that’s never good. Others feel excited because stocks are basically on sale right now. We all react to situations differently, so see if you agree with these thoughts and opinions on the financial crisis.

Tips for Making It Through The Financial Crisis

As more of us start to realize that we’ve spent more money than we can afford, it’s time to start taking action. With the staggering economy, frugality is making a comeback. It’s all about making the most of what you do have, not spending what you don’t have, and here are a bunch of great tips on how to do it.

The Stock Market

The stock market is way down, and we can only guess how much lower it will go and when it will finally bottom out. Some people are pulling their money out while others are putting more money in. What should you be doing? I recommend checking out these great articles and then deciding for yourself.

Retirement Funds

If you have a 401(k) or Roth IRA, chances are your account is down a lot this year. People tend to freak out when they start losing money, and a natural reaction is to withdraw from the situation. However, that’s not always the best solution. Find out why you should continue contributing to your retirement accounts in the midst of this financial mess.
