TaxCut Giveaway Winner

by Broke Grad Student on April 7, 2008

Three contestants entered the TaxCut Giveaway with each contestant choosing a number between 1 and 10. Here are the entries I received:

  • 3 — Blaine Moore
  • 5 — Andrew
  • 9 — Emily

To select the winner, I used a random integer generator to pick a number. The person with the closest number is the winner, so I’m happy to announce that the winner of Broke Grad Student’s TaxCut Giveaway is…Blaine Moore!

Congrats to Blaine! The random number was 2. You should receive an email from me with the code tomorrow. Andrew and Emily, thank you for playing.

Weekly Roundup #4: Not Quite Weekly Edition

by Broke Grad Student on April 6, 2008

As you can tell from the title, I haven’t been keeping up with my weekly roundups. Taking “weekly” out of the name would probably be the easiest solution. Anyway, here’s a roundup of some of my favorite articles from this past week.

I also want to highlight the carnivals I participated in this week:

TaxCut Giveaway

by Broke Grad Student on April 5, 2008

Well, there’s only 10 days left before taxes are due, which means that even procrastinators should start thinking about filing their taxes soon. I do have some good news though. For once, it may pay off to be a procrastinator, because I’m giving away one free code for TaxCut Online Premium + State + E-file ($59.95 value).

To enter the contest, leave a comment on this post with a number between 1 and 10 and why you chose that number (just for kicks). After ten people have entered (or on Monday night, depending on which comes first) I’ll use a random number generator to determine the winner. The winner will be emailed a code that can be redeemed immediately.

Call for Guest Posts

by Broke Grad Student on April 4, 2008

Things have been pretty hectic for me lately. In addition to my full-time job, I’ve been working on finishing up my thesis after work. With my thesis defense coming up next week and my final paper due a few weeks after that, this is a call for a little help from my friends. If any fellow bloggers are interested in doing a guest post on Broke Grad Student, please let me know.

March 2008 In Review

by Broke Grad Student on April 2, 2008

This marks the fifth month since the birth of Broke Grad Student, and I’m glad to announce that the numbers are still on the rise. I’d like to thank my readers and fellow bloggers for the support. For those of you who are visiting for the first time, be sure to check out the most popular posts from the past month:

Payback Fund: $2907.58

This fund continues to steadily grow each month, which is awesome. The most satisfying part is watching my loan balance go down, because every little chunk I knock out feels like weight off of my shoulders.

2,606 Unique Visitors

March was a great month for Broke Grad Student. I had over 800 more unique visitors compared to the previous month. I’m excited as this number continues to grow, and I hope to continue this growth in the following months.

92 Subscribers

Only 8 more subscribers to reach the century mark! Although I still can’t believe that this many people actually want to read what I write, I’m glad to know that it’s not just my mom and dad reading the blog.
